【培養規格和培養要求】

本專業學生主要學習英語語言文學方面的基本理論和基本知識，接受英語語言的基本理論與交際能力的基本訓練，具有較強的英語口、筆表達和交際能力。而外語專業本身就是實踐性很強的學科，需要持久不斷的訓練打磨，才能練就過硬的專業外語能力。因此，通過學習，畢業生應獲得以下幾個方面的素養、知識和能力：

1.掌握中國特色社會主義理論體系的重要思想，樹立科學的世界觀、正确的人生觀和價值觀，具有良好的職業道德和服務社會的奉獻精神。

2.了解英語學科與專業發展的趨勢，具有寬厚的文化修養、娴熟的英語交際能力、良好的協作能力和創新的思維方式，具有紮實的專業理論基礎和應用能力。

3.具備專業技術職業資格的基本條件，有良好的信息素養和計算機應用能力，較熟練掌握一門第二外語。

4. 有較強的英語聽、說、讀、寫、譯語言技能，能通過英語專業四級和英語專業八級考試；參加相關的國際商務英語、翻譯等必備的國家級職業證書考試。

5.具有健康的體魄, 和終身體育鍛煉。

【培養目标】

本專業培養适應社會主義現代化建設需要，面向華南地區，特别是廣東經濟、社會發展，具有紮實的英語語言基礎、廣博的文化知識，較強的英語聽、說、讀、寫、譯語言技能，能熟練地運用英語在商業性、管理性、政策性等各類金融機構、企事業單位、各級政府部門、學校及相關研究機構從事翻譯、管理、教學等實際工作，德、智、體、美全面發展、綜合素質較高，學科專業基礎紮實，應用能力突出,具有較強職業素養和創新創業精神的應用型人才。

【專業核心課程】

綜合英語、高級英語、英語寫作、英語閱讀、筆譯基礎、口譯基礎、英美社會與文化、英國文學欣賞、美國文學欣賞、英語語言學概論、跨文化交際、學術英語寫作等。

修業年限：四年

授予學位：文學學士

當然，商務英語專業和翻譯專業也各自的專業人才培養方案和課程設置，各有特色，這裡我們就不一一羅列了。至于具體的描述，大家可以查看我們學校的相關文件來了解詳情。

那不同英語類三大專業又如何區分呢？

首先，英語專業、商務英語專業和翻譯專業都是英語類專業，都從傳統的英語語言文學專業多元發展起來的，都要求有較強的英語聽、說、讀、寫、譯的語言溝通能力。

我校英語專業側重英美文學和教學翻譯的教授，要求學生多學多練，能說會道，能書能詩，提高英語文學品味，英語語言的人文性特點更突出，畢業生考研和外語教育的就業方向更有優勢。

商務英語專業學生學習的的商科相關專業知識更多，跨學科知識更豐富，将在外貿企業做國際貿易

上手更快，英語作為語言工具的特點更突出。

翻譯專業學生的譯員素質更高，翻譯理論與實踐方面訓練更多、更規範，拎起包來随身翻譯更熟練，更專業，做連傳翻譯更有效率，更适合考研翻譯碩士（MTI）方向。

   A Speech About Making Differences for English Majors

   As the famous poem"Youth" has written, "Youth is not a time of life, it's a state of mind." Indeed, life is just a process during which one can create his own value for college is just like "a melting pot",where you could do what you want and gain professional linguistic knowledge. Nevertheless, how you could make a difference in your school life?

   Firstly, those who have a good mastery of learning skills can manage things well.The skills of and the knowledge of learning a language are all capital and treasure in our life,which make your college life more interesting and wonderful. You could also gain social experiences from taking part in many school activities and obtain much knowledge from books you read. Be confident and behave yourself well in public as well as participate inmore activities, which will help shape your outstanding characters.

   Secondly,as a proverb goes,“a fall into the pit, a gain in your wit”.Consequently, we must be brave and allow us to make mistakes and then try again and again until you get them right."Although you have failed one hundred times, there's still another chance for you to catch."That's what makes life active and powerful. As a consequence, try to grasp every opportunity to express your strong point and put your heart into it.Then perhaps, you could hear your laughter of joy and happiness in your dream; you could see the smiles on the people around you when the magic moment strikes; you could feel your face getting red, your heart beating fast, and your blood rushing all over your body, to every single corner of your being.

   Thirdly, failure or success mostly depends on one's attitude towards things. It's of great significance to be an eternal optimist.Afterward, you can become aware of the distinct miracle of creation. With an optimistic attitude, you could be able to move on in an objective way so as to make the right decision.

   Last but not least,to have a regular life is a good way to keep healthy and achieve your ambition.It goes without saying that a strong body is just the basis and qualification of success.

   Keeping Hungry and Seeking for Value of English for English Majors Benjamin Franklin says: “If a man empties his purse into his head, no man can take it away from him, an investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.”

   From my point of view, for English major students,it is always important for us to keep hungry and foolish in seeking for value of English.Keeping hungry and staying foolish mean that we need to have a mind like a beginner looking at something new.Only if we are never satisfied with our knowledge, can we enable us to enrich our experience and increase the awareness of the significance of knowledge.English is both simple and complex.With rapid changing in technology and society, English has become an international language that is well recognized by people around the world. As a result, English plays an increasingly big role in business, trade and cultural exchange, which sets up a new stage for our English major students.Hence, expanding our scope of English knowledge and improving ourselves is the pressing demand for us.This will help us gain a greater advantage in the competition. It is highly desired for you to keep hungry for English knowledge and lay a solid foundation in language.

   What's more, we are supposed to have greater priority to discovering and seeking for the value of English.For an English major, the process of learning English is just discovering the wonder of English.Learning English is equal to acquiring the tools that will never lose value.

   As far as I am concerned,English is a solid bridge connecting us with the world; English is a torch in the darkness leading us to the road of knowledge; English is a tree of wisdom which protects us from the wind and rain of knowledge; English is a diligent bee spreading over the perfume of flowers; English is the charming flower bringing us the breath of success.English not only makes options for us to have a better understanding of the different culture of other countries, but also cultivates our ability of thinking and communication.

   As is known to all, good communication is the first step to success.Besides, it is helpful to learn about how language shapes the world, which consists of a variety of discourses such as politics, religion, philosophy and others. Good language skill is greatly beneficial to us.

   Values of English vary from person to person. For me, the main value of a foreign language degree and more in English is its great communication value for me.It is needless to say that value of English will never depreciate andgoes beyond any price.Therefore, what I wish is that you should put ample emphasis on the value of English.

   From my perspective, it pays to exert ourselves to learn English to keep abreast of the changes of societyin the new era with the ever-accelerating and updating of science and technology. English will lead our country better to the international world, soit is our unshakeable duty to learn English well and make greater contributions to our country.

   As English majors, keeping hungry and seeking for the real value of English are our chief mission at college, which are the ladder heading to the height of wisdom and the stepping stone for us to climb to the peak of our life. They make the tremendous sense of our youth, the colorful web knitted by our dream and the evergreen tree of our values.

   A Welcoming Speech to English Major Freshman

   With the rapid development of economics in our country, many college students would be more willing to choose economy, business or other applied science as their major. Nonetheless, I recommend you a better choice, English major, which is not only great fun but also useful major.

   I have been an English major student for about two years. I have learnt many kinds of English classes, like Integrated English course, Oral English course, Intercultural Communication course, English Writing course and so on. In each of these courses, our teachers teach us all in English, which helps us learn how to communicate in English better. You can learn about lots of aspects of different cultures from Integrated English course. For example, you can learn about various other countries' food, clothing, shelter and transportation, culture, customs and so on, which would greatly broaden you horizon, have a better understanding of other people about their behaviors or languages and you will learn to be a good communicator with foreigners.In addition, you can also appreciate various foreign literary masterpieces, videos and audios, more than you can expect. And you will be immersed in an English world, falling in great love with English language.

   Except for the pleasant the feeling that you can get from the English major, there are also lots of practical advantages. It is universally acknowledged that, nowadays the trend towards economic globalization is developing in greater depth.English is becoming a world language.    A Speech About Passion for English Major Freshmen

   For some people, majoring in English is actually not a sensible option with the consideration of future career. It appears that specializing in English means spending our precious four years on mere mastering a foreign language, which most of our counterparts have learned more or less.English majors seem to have little competitiveness in job hunting, so on and so forth. In spite of this, I still have a deep love for my major – English major

   First and foremost, the curriculum set for English majors has offered us great opportunities to be exposed to a real English environment. Moreover, language is so clearly culture-related that we feel like encountering new cultures distinctive from ours, which appeals to me most.Having a better understanding of foreign cultures allows us to achieve smoother communications.It does have beneficial effect on bridging various cultures in the world.Communicating in another language involves not only linguistic skills, but also the ability to think differently, so that we can enter another culture's world and get to know the world better.

   Secondly, with its greater expansion, English has become the leading international language.Conferences as well as papers are mostly presented in English. This implies that having good command of English contributes greatly to further understanding and information update.Not only can we know about current affairs worldwide immediately, but also be able to be acquainted with latest technology.It's our professional language skills that serve as a stepping stone for us to keep pace with the times. Hence, I can't agree more to the fact thatthose who help the globalization process bettermay not be those equipped with the latest technology or the most fashionable mobile phones, but the ones with better skills to understand what lies in, under and beyond the words in many different languages.

   All in all, it is the passion for language, the hunger for life, the openness to the world and the quest for truth that motivates me to major in English.I just take great pride in being an English major.

   Hello, my dear freshmen! I’m Jackie Wong, one of your teachers.

   First, my thousand thanks to your wise choice of our college. Please accept my respectful congratulations to you ALL! You’re welcome to be a member of the harmonious family of our department, the Department of Foreign Languages, GDUF. You’re welcome to be part of our life. You’re just our new hope and our bright future.

   Second, since you’ve turned to be part of our life, we’ll do whatever we can, together with our excellent colleagues, to help your growth & progress in your study, health and integrity. We’ll listen to your concern, heart & soul, helping you adjust to the new college life and make progress day by day.

   Since you’ve come into our united family, my dear freshmen, we’ll experience, together with you, the wonder of English learning, the miracle of talent potentialities, and true meaning of free spirit, self-reliance and independent personality.

   Third, in the following four years, we are very pleased to be your guides and friends in a myriad of language practice, research projects and campus activities, which will give full play to your unimaginable potential. As you go on to experience the real world communication, we will initiate you to more social practice, helping you know better your true self, the present society, the spirit of research and the value of human life.

   As your seniors and teachers, we’ll be pleased to offer we have, in hand and atheart, to you in your next dream transition in your life, whether it is job-hunting or further graduate studies.    Fourth, as to the way to study and the key to success, I’ll like to quote a little poem entitled “Results and Roses”, which runs as follows:

   The man who wants a garden fair,

   Or small or very big,

   With flowers growing here and there,

   Must bend his back and dig.

   The things are very few on earth,

   That wishes can attain,

   Whatever we want of any worth,

   We’ve got to work to gain.

   It matters not what goal you seek,

   To get results or roses.

   Yes, this is true indeed: hard work,from week to week, makes the very key to success.

   Finally, I just can’t wait to see your coming success roses and I’d like to read aloud an imitated encouraging poem I composed right after my poetry class, two years ago. The title of the poem is “IF”

   If you are kind enough to help th’ needed

   And reach your hand at your heart’s inner call;

   If you can get ahead in high spirit

   And keep moving until the very end;

   If you can keep as busy as a bee

   But remain peaceful in sound and fury;

   If you can see the bright side of dark clouds

   And cheer up after each down in the dumps;

   If you can grasp the truth of honesty

   And know there is always better ahead;

   If you can tell that you have done the best

   To move to your ultimate ambition.

   Then youare different from others all

   And turn to be a real graduate, my dear!
